Ch\u00e2teau des Couldraies is located in the Loire Valley<\/strong>, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage<\/strong> Site since 2000. The estate is located 40 km from Tours and 2 km from the world-famous Chenonceau Castle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vineyard’s ideal southern exposure close to the Cher, a tributary of the Loire, ensures that winemaking has been very successful here for centuries.
The soil consists of sandy loam soil, lime as well as lots of flint on the surface which ensures optimal water permeability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We consider respect for the environment important and have therefore chosen the ecological label HVE-3.
This label guarantees attention to biodiversity, phytosanitary strategy, fertilisation and irrigation management. It is a more focused, science-based method. This certification is checked by a certification body recognised by the Ministry of Agriculture. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vineyard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\n

The 10-hectare vineyard is divided between about 60% red and 40% white grape varieties.
The classic red grapes are Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec (also called C\u00f4t here), Gamay, Grolleau and Pinot Noir complemented by Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc for the white varieties.
Planting density is 6667 vines per hectare and several plots are between 50 and 100 years old.
This allows us to make very concentrated terroir wines and you can taste this immediately in the wine glass.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Our story<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For years, we were interested wine tasters without a very extensive background knowledge. This changed dramatically about seven years ago after a wine tasting course and an intensive training in viticulture. During our holidays, we visited several wine regions in France but already after the first visit to Ch\u00e2teau des Couldraies, the proverbial coup de foudre has struck\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For us, Ch\u00e2teau des Couldraies is the perfect marriage between historical heritage in an exceptional region and a magnificent, south-facing vineyard. From the start, our mission is to strive for just that little bit more in our wines with every harvest!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The heritage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The heritage consists of a 16th-century Renaissance castle with a monumental fireplace and a dovecote at the front of the park garden, all mentioned on the list of French historical monuments. This former hunting lodge of Chenonceau castle was highly prized by French king Fran\u00e7ois 1st, Henri 2nd and Diane de Poitiers. You can still feel the magic as you walk around here…<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
